The history of Botox in aesthetics
Botox has become a household name in the world of aesthetics, but its roots extend far beyond cosmetic applications. The story of Botox begins in the 19th century with the discovery of botulinum toxin, one of the deadliest naturally occurring substances. This toxin is produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium and was first identified in the 1820s as a cause of food poisoning. It wasn't until the 1940s, during World War II, that scientists began investigating botulinum toxin's potential applications, with early studies focused on its effects on muscles and nerve signals.
